In this blog I will be showing you how to reset your PC with Windows 10 installed on it. Let’s understand what we mean when we way reset your PC. This process can be used to any device, whether it is PC, laptop, desktop or tablet installed with Windows 10.
Why to reset your PC
There are several occasions when you require to reset your PC:
- A person is transferring the ownership of PC to another person.
- Device is not in good state, getting hung because of any software issue or registry got corrupted.
- Device belongs to the organization, and the organization wants to reset it.
How to reset you PC
Click on Start Menu and type Reset this PC, the moment you type this you will get the option with the same name, click on it to launch.
Windows Settings page will open with Recovery option showing Reset this PC page, click on Get Started.
You will have 2 options to choose from:
- Keep my files
Reinstall Windows 10, while removing all applications and drivers you installed on the system. but will keep all your personal files.
- Remove everything
Reinstall Windows 10, while removing everything including all applications, drivers and personal files.
We will be going with the option Keep my files.
In next page, you will be seeing the options showing what will be reset during this process, you have an option to verify List of apps to be removed to verify the same.
You may make a note of your applications which will be required to be installed at later stage.
Click on Reset option to initiate the process.
The process will go through a phase preparing your system.
Thereafter, proceeding with system restart. You will be able to see system showing Resetting this PC with percentage in progress.
System will be performing Windows 10 installation which will go through multiple restart phase.
Once process is completed, you will be able to see your login window with your username used to login. You can now login to the system with a neat and clean fresh Windows 10 installation without losing your personal data.
Once you login to the windows, under c drive you will be able to see to folder, windows and windows.old. Windows is the current folder which Windows 10 has installed, while windows.old is the previous windows installed. This folder (windows.old) which is no longer required, will be deleted automatically after a period of 28 days.
