In this blog I will be showing you how to export-import the internet explorer Favorites from one computer to another or from one user to another. There are couple of ways to perform this , lets discuss it step by step.
For demonstration purpose, I have chosen a Windows 10 system build version 1909. Lets launch the Internet explorer and look for the favorites. Favorites can be viewed by enabling Menu bar
Enable Menu bar
Right click on the top bar of Internet explorer. Select Menu bar.
Once selected, we can see Menu bar showing File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help. Click on Favorites to get list of favorites set for this system.
There are 2 ways to export and import the internet explorer
Using IE setting Import and export…
Click on File and select Import and export… to launch Import/Export Settings.
Select Export to a file option, and click Next.
Select the options you want to export, we are going with exporting Favorites only.
Select the folder that you want to export your favorites from, we are going to select the top folder ie. Favorites to select all Favorites folder, click Next.
Under Page Where do you want to export your favorites, specify location of your choice or you can select default option. I am going with default option which is c:\Users\Admin\Documents\bookmark.htm in my case. Click on Export to save the file in htm format.
Finally, you will be getting a success message You have successfully exported these settings, click on Finish to exit the export settings wizard.
Copy the file bookmark.htm on USB or to any shared location, which will be used on destination system to import the favorites. I have copied the bootmark.htm at c:\temp\bootmark.htm on destination computer
Login to another system where you want import the Favorites. Launch Internet Explorer and click on File and select Import and export…
This time select Import from a file and click on Next.
On page What would you like to import, select Favorites and click Next.
In next, specify the location of bootmark.htm we exported previously and click Next.
Select a destination folder for your favorites and click Import to import all Favorites.
We can now see list of Favorites appearing under Favorites Menu.
Accessing Favorites through UserProfile
Right click Windows Menu at left bottom of your screen and select Run.
Or use shortcut Windows key button + R
This will launch Run window and type %userprofile% and click on OK.
This will launch your user profile folders, we interested in folder Favorites, double click to open the folder.
Select all the files by using shortcut Ctrl + A, and copy (Ctrl + C), you can select all files using shift key as well and right click menu will give you copy option.
Create Fav folder under c drive, paste (Ctrl + V) all the files under this folder.
Logon to another system and open %userprofile%, open Favorites folder and paste all the from the folder c:\fav.
